Jim Causley hails from the village of Whimple in East Devon.
He was born in Exeter and is a relative of the Cornish poet Charles Causley.
Described by Mojo Magazine as "the finest singer of his generation", he grew up in an area rich in
traditional music; his home village is in the heart of Cider Country with its thriving wassailing
tradition and its close proximity to Sidmouth and Dartmoor Folk Festivals.
After studying Performing Arts, Jazz & Popular Music at Exeter College, he went on to study Folk
and Traditional Music at the University of Newcastle on Tyne. It was during this time that he
began gaining a reputation as a talented singer on the wider UK folk scene.

"If you are true to the music, the music will be true to you, and Alan West is very much the embodiment of that for me" – Bob Harris OBE, BBC Radio 2
“Alan West is a UK Treasure. His masterful interpretation of both classic and original Americana songs, together with his easy-going stage demeanour, gives the impression of a laid back, front porch musical presentation, but with the professionalism that very few can carry off so effortlessly.”

The Jurassix
The Tuckers Arms - 3.45pm
Church Cottage Garden - 1.30pm

Our journey began back in 2011, when the founding members of Jurassix were all singing in local choirs. Us boys tried singing a few sea shanties and realised we had a real appreciation of shanty music. We tried a few "turn up and sing" events and discovered that people liked listening to our brand of shanty singing so Jurassix was born. Choosing a name was easy....., we all live on the Jurassic Coast, there was originally six of us, we are all of a certain age, so that’s how Jurassix became the name of our shanty band.

The choir was reformed just over 2 years ago following the death of their founder Edward Jacobs.
We now sing a variety of songs including ballads, songs from shows and some from overseas.
Changing from accompanied to a cappella singing has been quite a challenge but the choir has flourished and
Friday evening rehearsals have become a great time of fun, enjoyment and achievement.
If you would like to give us a try, come along on a Friday evening and join in at Colyford Village Hall.
No auditions or individual trials - just fun !
The Axe Valley Community Choir is a friendly, non-audition a cappella choir for people of all ages.
Our inspirational and enthusiastic choir leader is Sarah Owen. Sarah believes passionately that
everyone can sing and enjoy being part of a choir - something that almost two decades of experience
as a vocal coach, choir leader and community musician has shown her again and again.
Our programme for Dalwood Music Day 2026 includes arrangements of songs from the worlds of
musical theatre, pop music and traditional music, with a focus on sunshine, travelling, and the joy of
